Growing tips

Location: Outdoors all year round, in mid-shade to full sun. Beware, however, of scorching summer sun (particularly in the southern half of France), which can damage the leaves. In this case, take care to place it in a shady spot. In winter, on the other hand, it is very hardy and not afraid of frost.

Watering: Beech needs a substrate that is always moist. However, water your tree regularly, allowing the root ball to dry out slightly between waterings to avoid over-watering. Indeed, under- or over-watering is not necessarily advantageous for the good health of your bonsai. So take the time to manage it properly.

Important: Don't hesitate to water the whole root ball right down to the roots. Water will drain out through the holes in the underside of the pot, or soak the tree in water for a few minutes, to make sure you water all the way down to the roots.

We advise against putting a dish or container under your pot, as the water will stagnate and may cause root rot (too much water = asphyxia).

In spring/summer, water regularly. In hot weather, water every day! In winter, on the other hand, water according to the amount of soil you're monitoring. Thanks to the rain and cold, you won't necessarily need to water regularly, as the substrate will remain moist.

Substrate and repotting: In our nursery, we use agricultural potting soil made up of black peat, blond peat, aged eco, topsoil, horse manure and pozzolan.

Repotting is done every 2/3 years, from January to March, before the plant starts to grow, but be careful never to destroy the root ball completely when repotting, as the mycelium (white fungus) develops with the roots and lives in symbiosis.

For a 20-year old plant, you can keep the same pot or enlarge it slightly when repotting.

Pruning: In spring (May), you can prune your tree when the branches are tender. Prune the twigs above the first leaf, and above the second leaf for weaker twigs. To encourage branching and compactness, you should "pinch" the young shoots after the first or second leaf; buds open rapidly; if you neglect pruning, you run the risk of very strong growth with elongated internodes. When the growing season is over, you can cut back an eye, following the direction of future growth.

Pruning for the structure you want to give it, is usually done at the end of winter (late February-March). To do this, prune the trunk buds and unsightly branches.

In summer, you can rejuvenate the foliage by removing the largest leaves to let in more light.

Fertilization: In the nursery, we use NPK 12 12 17 blue tomato/flower fertilizer, nitrogen = N, phosphorus = P and potassium = K, with a higher potash content for mineral supplementation. It's a perfect fertilizer for supplementing nutrients. Put a handful (small or large depending on pot size) on the substrate from spring, from May to October, every 2 months for good growth.

All our bonsai are unique. That's why they are referenced by numbers. These numbers do not indicate the age of the tree. If you'd like to know, please contact us. We'll be happy to tell you its approximate age.

We ship bonsai throughout France and neighbouring EU countries.

We take care to pack each bonsai in custom-made wooden crates or reinforced cardboard boxes. The tree is well protected and secured to avoid any risk of breakage.

Depending on the size and weight of your bonsai, shipment is made by specialized carriers: DPD (under 30kg) or GEODIS (over 30kg).

Our priority is to ensure the smooth delivery of your bonsai. That's why we rarely ship on weekends, and never during heatwaves, to prevent your bonsai from being left in transit for too long. We also regularly monitor and check the tracking of your parcels.

The advantages of our bonsai nursery

The bonsai you see in the photo is really the one you'll receive. For dimensions, please refer to the scale on the side. Each product is unique, and we take care to take photos that give you as accurate an idea as possible of what you're about to receive.

All our bonsai are produced in our large nursery in the Lot-Et-Garonne region of France. They are therefore perfectly adapted to the French climate, which is not always the case with Japanese imports.

We have over 1,000 bonsai for sale at the nursery and tens of thousands for cultivation and work. This site is only a small representation of our production, but it's impossible for us to put all our stock online. So if you're passing through, don't hesitate to pay us a visit!
