The Sawara false cypress "chamaecyparis pisifera boulevard" is a hardy conifer, prized for its delicate foliage formed of bluish-green plumes with silvery highlights. These shades subtly capture the light, giving the impression of foliage in constant motion. In winter, its foliage takes on purplish or purple tones, like fine fur reacting to the cold.

More intense in the heat and with a good supply of fertilizer, its deep blue fades slightly in winter, giving way to browner tones.

Cultivation Advice

Outdoors all year round, the Chamaecyparis prefers cool, not too sunny, and rather partial shade. Therefore, avoid overly dry climates.

It requires a consistently moist soil. Water it regularly, allowing the root ball to dry slightly between waterings to avoid overwatering.

In spring/summer, water regularly; in warm weather, it's daily! However, in winter, water according to your soil monitoring. Thanks to rain and cold weather, you won't necessarily need to water regularly since the soil will remain moist.

Important: Don't hesitate to water the entire root ball, right down to the roots; the water will drain through the holes at the bottom of the pot, or soak the tree in water (draining) for a few minutes to ensure you've thoroughly watered the roots. We do not recommend placing a saucer or container under your pot as water will stagnate and can cause root rot. (Too much water = asphyxiation).

In the nursery, we use agricultural potting soil composed of black peat, blond peat, aged organic soil, topsoil, horse manure, and pozzolan. Repotting should be done every two years, preferably in the fall.

This variety does not appreciate excessive pruning. Therefore, prune very lightly in the summer, always leaving the foliage intact.

In the nursery, we use blue tomato/flower fertilizer NPK 12, 12, 17. Add a handful (small or large depending on the size of the pot) to the substrate every two months from spring, from May to October.
