Growing tips:

Location: Accustomed to the Mediterranean climate, it should be exposed outside all year round, preferably in full sun. However, during periods of high heat, choose a semi-shaded spot to protect it from the scorching and bright sun. In winter, don't worry, it's a robust and hardy bonsai, for safety you can always protect it from heavy frosts, by using a winter fleece or glass wool etc... but keep it out!

Watering: very important, it needs a substrate that is always moist. Water it regularly while allowing the root ball to dry out slightly between waterings to avoid excess water. In spring/summer, watering will be done regularly, when it's hot, it's every day ! On the other hand, in winter, water according to the supervision of the soil. Thanks to the rain and cold, you won't necessarily need to water regularly since the substrate will remain moist.

Important: Don't hesitate to water the entire root ball up to the roots, the water will drain away through the holes under the pot or bathe the bonsai in water (drenching) for a few minutes, to make sure you water it well. We do not recommend putting a cup/container under the pot as the water will stagnate and can cause root rot. (Too much water = asphyxiation).

Repotting: every 2 years in spring, in the nursery,we use agricultural potting soil composed of black peat, blond peat, eco-aged, topsoil, horse manure, pozzolana. The next time you repot, you can mix more draining substrate such as: akadama, pumice, kiryu... Just be careful not to disturb the root ball, don't destroy the whole root ball!

Pruning: It tolerates energetic and drastic pruning very well. Use appropriate tools for a clean quality pruning and in particular for pruning old wood (sharp bonsai scissors, pointed concave bonsai pliers, good pruning shears, etc.). The rapid development of these branches and leaves will allow you to easily achieve the shape you want to give it.

If you want the tree to develop a lot of flowers and fruit the following year, don't prune too late or too severely. If you prune in July-August, you may remove many flower buds. In addition, any shoots that form underneath on the trunk or on cut wounds should be removed as soon as possible.

Fertilization: In the nursery, we use blue tomato/flower fertilizer NPK 12 12 17. It is a perfect fertilizer as a supplement to nutrients. Put a handful on the substrate, larger or smaller depending on the size of the pot. Fertilize from spring to fall (May to October), every 2 months.
